I jokingly refer to this structure, Malcolm's Deck, as my largest turning.
It is a donut shaped observation deck surrounding a mountain peak, 900 feet
in circumference, overlooking Lake Tahoe, located at the mid-station of Heavenly
Ski Area's Gondola. I designed and built this with a crew of Heavenly Ski Area
employees in the summer of 2000. There are many corners as the one million pounds
of steel conforms to the natural topography. If you look closely at the walking
surface, you can see that the steel decking is segmented, much like wood in a segmented
woodturning.
