Along with most people, I was deeply affected by the catastrophic Gulf coast events. My mind continues to be haunted by the loss of life, the loss of lifestyle, and the sheer scope of human suffering. My goal was to create an object that expressed my anguish for the people who had their lives so torn apart. The twisted and distorted aspect of the vessel represents the unforgiving power of Mother Nature. However, the vessel has not been broken; it’s underlying trumpet shape and the beauty of the wood that Mother Nature provided represents the resilience and fortitude of the hurricane victims.
